High strength steel for trailer frames and flooring

By incorporating high strength steel into your trailers, you can achieve a lighter weight without compromising on payload capacity, leading to reduced fuel consumption.

Semi-Trailers with High Strength Steel

Flatbed Trailers

A flatbed trailer, characterized by its open design without sides or a roof, typically features a crane for handling large, bulky items. This setup allows for convenient access to the cargo from all sides.

Lowbed Trailers

A platform trailer designed with a lower deck provides the advantage of accommodating larger and heavier cargo, such as tractors, bulldozers, and excavators, making it ideal for transporting heavy machinery.

Van Trailers

A staple in the trailer world, this type is fully enclosed, offering versatility and cost-effectiveness.

Dump Trailers

These trailers are designed for transporting bulk materials like sand and gravel. They feature a deck that can be lifted from one side to conveniently dump the contents.

High strength steel for agricultural equipment

Enhance your agricultural operations by opting for equipment made with high strength steel. This durable and lightweight material ensures that your machinery can endure tough conditions throughout the seasons. By choosing high strength steel from Baosteel, you can expect to see higher profits and crop yields, reduced fuel consumption, and the ability to harvest more per acre in a shorter timeframe.

Agricultural Equipment with High Strength Steel

Harvesters

Harvesters are evolving to be more expansive and encompassing, aiming to maximize cost efficiency and increase the area covered per hour. This advancement is made possible by utilizing high-strength steel throughout all structural components, ensuring robustness and durability.

Sprayers

Spray booms can extend to impressive lengths, often exceeding 30 meters, which poses significant challenges in terms of weight and structural stability. The equipment must be designed to keep the boom steady and consistently aligned with the ground, despite its considerable length.

Plows

Working the tough, hard soils of the field can really put the squeeze on farming machinery. But with the robustness of high strength steel on your side, plows and cultivators can handle the job more efficiently.

Agricultural trailers

Agricultural trailers crafted from high-strength steel can be thinner than those made with standard steel, resulting in a sturdier and lighter build. For those in search of steel suitable for trailer chassis construction, high strength steel stands out as the go-to choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is high strength structural steel?

High strength structural steel (HSS) is structural steel with a minimum yield strength of 460 MPa, compared with 235-355 MPa for conventional carbon structural steel. Yield strengths in our supply range run from 600 MPa to 1300 MPa. The higher strength allows thinner, lighter structures without sacrificing load capacity, which is why HSS is the standard choice for crane booms, pump truck arms, dump truck bodies and mining equipment.

What is the difference between S700MC and S690QL?

Both belong to the 700 MPa yield strength class, but they follow different standards and production routes. S700MC is specified by EN 10149-2 and delivered as thermomechanically rolled (TMCP) plate or strip, optimized for cold forming; Baosteel's equivalent BS700MC series is produced to Q/BQB 316. S690QL is specified by EN 10025-6 and delivered as quenched and tempered plate, optimized for welded structures requiring high toughness at low temperature (the L grade guarantees impact energy down to -40 °C). For cold-formed parts choose the MC grades; for welded heavy structures choose the QL grades. See our BS 700MC K2/K4 product page for specifications and FOB pricing.

What are the equivalent grades of high strength structural steel?

Equivalent grades depend on the standard system. In the 700 MPa class, Baosteel BS700MC corresponds to EN 10149-2 S700MC and SSAB Domex 700MC; Baosteel BS700D/E corresponds to EN 10025-6 S690QL and SSAB Weldox 700. The full equivalence tables for 600-1300 MPa grades (Baosteel / EN10149-2 / EN10025-6 / SSAB) are listed above on this page.

What is high strength steel used for?

Typical applications include construction machinery (cranes, excavators, pump trucks), transport equipment (dump trucks, trailers, rail cars), mining machinery (dump bodies, buckets), offshore structures, bridges and high-rise buildings. In each case the value of HSS is weight reduction: a higher-strength plate carries the same load with less material, cutting both weight and total cost.

How do you weld high strength structural steel?

Use low-hydrogen consumables matching the base metal strength, and apply preheat and interpass temperature control according to the grade and plate thickness - higher strength grades generally require higher preheat. Keep heat input within the steel maker's recommended range to preserve the mechanical properties in the heat-affected zone. Welding procedure specifications for each grade are available on request.

Why import high strength structural steel from China?
